Story
Welcome to my AJ Bell Great North Run 2026 profile page for Diabetes UK.
I’ve officially signed up to run a Half Marathon (21K) – something that felt completely impossible not that long ago.
This journey is about going from couch to 21K, pushing myself physically and mentally, all to raise money for Diabetes UK in support of my 6 year old daughter who has recently been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.
When someone you love is diagnosed with a lifelong condition, it changes everything. Type 1 diabetes isn’t caused by lifestyle – it’s an autoimmune condition that means the body can’t produce insulin. It requires constant monitoring, daily injections or insulin therapy, carb counting, finger pricks, sensors, planning every meal, every activity, every single day. There are no days off.
Watching someone so close to me adapt to this new reality has been both heartbreaking and inspiring. The strength, resilience, and courage they show daily is unbelievable. If they can face this diagnosis head-on, then I can certainly get off the sofa, lace up my trainers, and push myself beyond my limits.
I am not a natural runner. This truly is couch to 21K. Early mornings. Sore legs. Doubt. Rain. Blisters. Every mile will be a reminder of why I’m doing this.
I’m running to:
• Raise awareness of Type 1 diabetes
• Support life-changing research
• Help fund better treatments and technology
• Be part of the fight for a cure
• Show my support in the strongest way I know how
Diabetes UK does incredible work supporting families, funding research, campaigning for better care, and helping people live well with diabetes. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a difference.
