Story
After a 2-year hiatus I’m back on the fundraising trail. This time I am taking on the London Marathon in support of the Lily Foundation.
For me this is a personal story. Our 15-year-old daughter Poppy has Mitochondrial Disease. Her physical abilities are incredibly limited (she can't walk or talk) but she offers so much joy to our family – and making her laugh is our daily mission 😊. Helping this small charity has become a personal mission for me and my wife and one I am always proud to take on new challenges for.
Over the last 14 years and incredible group of friends, colleagues and family members AKA “Team Poppy” have raised over £264k for The Lily Foundation - running, cycling, climbing, hiking and cooking. Having personally always avoided running, I bought a pair of trainers in September 2024 and now I’m aiming to add a Marathon to my personal list.
The Lily Foundation was founded by Liz Curtis in memory of her daughter, having lost her battle to Mitochondrial Disease at just eight months old.
Mitochondrial disease is a rare, complex and difficult-to-diagnose genetic disorder that affects people in very different ways. It can affect any organ at any age and often occurs in babies and young children. There is currently no cure, but The Lily Foundation is working hard to change that and are the largest charitable funder of mitochondrial research in Europe.
