Story
This year, I’m running the London Marathon to support the PSP Association (PSPA) and honour the memory of my incredible father-in-law, Allan Swiel. Allan sadly passed away in May 2022 after a brave and dignified battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).
Allan had such a zest for life. He loved nothing more than being on holiday—especially in his native South Africa—and spending time with his family. His warmth, humour, and spirit brought us all so much joy, and his absence is deeply felt.
Since his passing, my wife Karen and I have proudly welcomed our third child, Alfie, named in Allan’s honour. Our growing family reminds me daily of Allan’s legacy and the importance of cherishing each moment.
Taking on the marathon is my way of both challenging myself and giving back to a cause that means so much to us. PSP is a cruel illness, and I witnessed firsthand the toll it took—not just on Allan, but on Karen, my mother-in-law Shirley and our wider family. The PSPA provides vital support to those affected and funds critical research to combat this disease.
Running this marathon is not just about the physical challenge; it’s about celebrating Allan’s life, his love of family, and his indomitable spirit. Every mile I run will be for him and for all those impacted by PSP.
Your support can make a real difference in the lives of families coping with PSP and CBD (Corticobasal Degeneration). Please consider donating and helping me reach my goal. Together, we can provide hope and resources to those who need them most.
Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity—it means the world to me, my family, and to Allan’s memory.
