Stonewall has made such an important contribution to the lives of people from LGBTQ+ communities over the past 35 years or so. Repealing Section 28 so young people can learn about sexuality in schools, equalising the age of sexual consent, allowing LGBT people to serve in the military, to foster and adopt children, enter a civil partnership and get married.
We have come a long way since 1989, but there is a global roll back of rights and the UK has slipped way down the ILGA rankings for LGBTQ+ rights in Europe. Where we recently led the way we are nowsit in 15th place.
Whilst the experiences of trans people, bi people, lesbians and gay women, LGBT people of colour and gay men will all be different, the shared experiences of prejudice and invisibility bring us together.
LGBT people are still bullied at school, hide their identities at work for fear of prejudice or harm, experience hate crime in the streets and their identities hidden or denied in older care.
That is why Stonewall's work is important and why a group of us are doing this 10k walk for equality in Brighton. Please join us for the walk and make a donation if you can.
