James Mossman fundraiser for Supporting Wounded Veterans Ltd

james mossman is raising money for Supporting Wounded Veterans Ltd
Supporting Wounded Veterans helps medically-discharged veterans regain their independence after physical and mental injuries. We offer skihabilitation, pain management, mentoring, and employment programmes. Since 2013 we have helped 90% of our veterans find meaningful occupation.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Why I am doing this and what I will be doing:

In March 2027, I will be travelling to Klosters as a volunteer ski buddy for Supporting Wounded Veterans. I am honoured and nervous to be taking part.

We will take to the slopes for a week alongside 25 veterans, many of whom are living with life changing physical injuries, PTSD or chronic pain. It is going to be an intense week.

I love my skiing, so I know how much being in the mountains can clear the mind and give a feeling of elation.

My role as a ski buddy will be to support and shadow a veteran throughout the programme, both on and off the slopes. I will be offering encouragement, practical help and moral support.

I will be immensely grateful for your help. The fundraising will help supply equipment and crucial services for the veterans, such as professional counselling, pain relief and physio. This work is irreplaceable for the veterans.

Please help me support this fabulous charity.

I am hoping to raise money with a number of activities.

1/ At the beginning of September Andrew Osborne my co driver and myself will be attempting to drive a Tuk Tuk over the Himalayas. Andrew is no novice to adventure having successfully rowed the Atlantic single handedly. Andrew is also raising money for Supporting Wounded Veterans.

We will be travelling over the highest roads and tracks in the world in a glorified lawn mower. What could possibly go wrong?

Our route will continue from the Himalayas to the desert city of Jaisalmer a distance of about 2000 Kms.

If you should wish to follow our adventure it will be on instagram, mobile data willing

2/ Zoe and I will be organising a "LowRox" the more gentle version of its relative Highrox. This will take place post Christmas with more details to follow. Teams of four will compete for glory.

3/ In February Zoe and I along with a large team of helpers will put on a repeat of the highly successful Escape and Evasion night.

This event involves dropping teams of four in a radius of a home point. Teams must check in to a number of check points before trying to get to a home point. Simple you might think but it will be dark, there is adverse terrain to cross with booby traps and teams of hunters determined to apprehend and imprison.

Last years event was a huge success we hope to match it this year.

Supporting Wounded Veterans helps wounded veterans regain their independence through skiing. Since 2012, SWV has helped hundreds of veterans back into meaningful employment or occupation.

In March 2027, 25 veterans will take to the slopes to build their confidence and restore their self-belief. With challenge and camaraderie they are empowered to successfully transition to civilian life.

Fundraisers featured on this page will be joining the SWV team as volunteer Ski Buddies, supporting the veterans throughout the week.

On their return home, veterans are supported by a mentor and the SWV employment, training and occupation team to consider and plan their professional and personal goals outside of military life.

Why SWV is needed:

Last year, 1,322 UK regular armed forces personnel were medically discharged, representing approximately four per day. For Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force personnel one of the most common causes of medical discharge was mental illness, which hawhich has increased since 2015.

For some veterans, the path to independence and employment can be a struggle which can be greatly improved by managing and developing their physical and mental health.

SWV offers veterans with physical or mental injuries or illnesses initial support through two programmes - Sports Habilitation and Pain Management. More on these programmes can be found via the SWV website:https://www.supportingwoundedveterans.com/our-programmes
