Story
10 Years. 10k. 30 Days.
On 9th August 2026 it will be exactly 10 years since I had my first brain surgery. On that same day I’ll be having my next MRI scan.
To mark the occasion I’ve decided to do something a little ambitious. Starting 10th July, I’ll be running 5k every day for 30 consecutive days, finishing with a 10k run on August 9th — my 10-year anniversary.
There’s just one catch. I haven’t trained or exercised since January 2025. So this is going to hurt.
In 2016 I was diagnosed with a Grade III brain tumour. I had surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. For nearly nine years my scans were clear. In 2025 it came back. I had a second surgery and more chemotherapy. My most recent scan in April 2026 was clear — and on August 9th I’ll find out if it still is.
Running 155 kilometres over 30 days feels like the right way to mark ten years of fighting this disease — and to do something meaningful with the wait between now and that scan result.
All money raised goes to Brain Tumour Ireland, who provide vital support, information and research funding for brain tumour patients and their families across Ireland.
If you can spare anything at all, I’d be incredibly grateful. And if you want to follow the journey, I’ll be posting daily updates.
Thank you.
