Brain Tumour Support is dedicated to providing support for patients, families and carers so that no one feels alone facing the effects of a brain tumour diagnosis. We provide individualised and specialist information, guidance and emotional support, at any point and for as long as it is needed.

Story

On the 8th of June 2024, 9 of us are taking on the 'National 3 Peaks Challenge'... this will involve climbing Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike & Snowdon - all within 24 hours.

We will be fundraising for Brain Tumour Support to help aid vital research, alongside raising awareness & support for everyone affected by a brain tumour.

Bens Story

Life was completely normal for our family up until the morning of 5th November 2023.

At home that morning, my dad experienced uncontrollable spasms on the left side of his body. Mum called the emergency services for assistance and Dad was taken to hospital.

When entering the hospital, Dad had a huge seizure and had to be sedated to help ease the seizures he was experiencing.

Whilst in hospital, further tests were carried out, where unfortunately scans identified a brain tumour.

After further appointments with the neurological team, a grade 4 glioblastoma brain tumour was confirmed.

Dad had an operation on the 30th November to remove as much of the tumour as possible & is currently undergoing treatment consisting of radiotherapy & chemotherapy, which is due to finish in early March.

We hope the treatment is successful & Dad has many good times ahead with friends & family.

In our local community, there have been other friends & families that have also been affected by this awful type of brain tumour - Bill Dungey (my wife's stepdad) & Mandy Chilcott - this hike will also be in honour of them.

Glioblastomas are a fast growing type of brain tumour. They are the most common type of cancerous brain tumour in adults, which currently cannot be cured.

Well, a cure can’t wait & with your help and support, we know one will be found sooner.

Thank you!

Ben
