Story
Taking a step for every one Harry couldn’t
Story
This fundraiser is in honour of our brother Harry — someone who has shown incredible strength and determination through years of pain and recovery.
Harry was born with mild cerebral palsy affecting the right side of body. A few years later, after a surgery and other complications, Harry developed Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS) in 2019. This condition caused intense, long-term pain and led to him missing a full year of school.
For the next five years, Harry faced challenges that most of us can’t imagine, including having to relearn how to walk. His resilience, patience, and courage are what inspire this fundraiser.
What is CRPS?
Complex Regional Pain Syndromes (CRPS) is a rare and severe form of chronic pain that can develop after injuries, surgeries, or nerve/brain damage. The pain experienced is far greater than what would normally be expected for the initial injury.
CRPS is considered to be a multi-system syndrome or condition that is mainly characterised by pain that lasts for a long time after the normal length of time for healing.
CRPS usually begins in one area of the body, but it can affect any part of the body. Although it usually begins in one particular area of the body, it can then spread away from the initially damaged area, even if it remains in one limb.
Despite its severity, CRPS remains under-researched and often misunderstood. Treatments are most effective only if started early. Even then, many live with chronic symptoms for years, or life.
Why We’re Fundraising 🔥
We will be running the length of Basingstoke canal, around 53km, in hopes of raising money for CRPS
Because CRPS is so rare, it doesn’t receive the level of research, awareness, or funding it deserves. Many people, including medical professionals, have limited understanding of what it truly means to live with CRPS.
That’s why we’re raising awareness and funds for Burning Nights CRPS, a UK charity that supports individuals and families affected by CRPS. They provide vital resources, raise awareness in the medical community, and fund ongoing research to help improve diagnosis and treatment. We want to provide support for people who are going through the same challenges that Harry did.
Final Note
Harry’s journey has shown us the power, compassion, and community. By coming together, we can help make sure that no one with CRPS feels alone, and that research continues to move forward.
Thank you for reading, sharing, and supporting this cause.
Together, we can bring light to a condition that too often goes unseen.
