Update (30/01/2026)

We reached the target reached before February even started - thanks so much everyone!

I planned to try and walk a mile for every £ raised... but currently that would mean over 50,000 steps a day!

So, I will try to walk as many miles as I can in February, and then any I don't manage I'll make up the difference with a personal donation of £1 for every mile.

By my calculations though I think I can get to 500+ miles... Get up at 5am, walk till 8am, work through the day, then after dinner walk from like 7pm-10pm. At my pace that should workout to about 20-22 miles a day. I have a conference mid February though so I'll have to make up the miles with some big day long walks on the weekends either side of that.

So keep the donations coming as it'll mean either more miles, or more £s from me ;-)

Also, I am walking Snowdon on the 28th February to finish off the Big Winter Roam!

This February I'm taking on the Big Winter Roam and raising funds for Cats Protection.

Our cats, Bigsey, Cosmic, and Kiki have been such important parts of our lives over the years and we've supported Cat's Protection as a charity throughout that time.

Kiki in particular doesn't like the wet and cold, but I on the other hand am an avid walker and so plan to cover at minimum 100 miles over the course of February. It's not a huge distance for me, but it's a good cause I feel very dearly about to commit my walking towards and raise some awareness and funds. I'll track my steps and distance during this time as I always do (expect some nice plots of the data at the end).

For every £ raised over the target £100 I'll add a mile to my target distance (even if it means having to do some very long walks at the end of February!).

Please support my challenge and help to make a better life for cats, because life is better with cats. 😺
