Story
When our son Oscar was born, he had trouble breathing on his own and was admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Southmead Hospital.
This was obviously super mentally testing, but add to it that Southmead is over an hour from home, we weren't sure whether we were going to have to leave Oscar there and travel to and from home and the hospital every day - something that of course, we absolutely did not want to do.
Thankfully, we didn't have to worry about it as we were provided a private room on the ward literally 30 seconds away from Oscar in his incubator. This made a stressful situation that little bit more bearable, and we are so grateful that we were able to do this.
Oscar's now 16 months old and absolutely awesome - but we've never forgotten the support we were given during his birth.
As a result, I'm doing the craziest challenge I've ever taken part in and running the Imber Ultra on the 1st of March - a 54km offroad race across Salisbury Plain, to raise money for the Southmead Hospital Charity who made our stay at the hospital possible.
My Dad, Phil will be doing it with me. He's done it once previously and I'm hoping his experience will help! But currently the furthest I've run is 30km, so that final 24km is entirely unchartered territory...
I wanted to do something mega though so that hopefully you feel inclined to donate, so that parents in our situation 16 months ago have the same opportunity we did to stay close to their child and don't need to worry about travel or accommodation in their time of need.
Anything you can spare towards this, we'd be really grateful for.
Thanks so much,
James
