Thanks for taking the time to visit my page.
Our karate club, Blackwater Valley Shotokan Karate, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and to mark this significant milestone we will be doing a kata marathon on Saturday 8th June. We will each be aiming to perform 50 karate katas in 2 hours.
We have chosen to raise money for National Autistic Society in support of one of our club members who regularly trains with us. We believe supporting our community and helping others as a karate family and our hope is that we are enhancing their life skills through participation in the study of the art of karate.
For any not familiar with karate katas, each consists of between 30 to 70 blocks, attacks, turns, throws or jumps, performed whilst maintaining correct ‘form’. Traditionally, they have been regarded as defending and attacking against multiple imaginary attackers.
There are at least 26 different katas in Shotokan Karate (I know only roughly a dozen at this point) and there are many more across different styles. Some of our group will concentrate on one kata; others, like myself will be running through their repertoire.
