Story
I am raising money for Croydon Health Charity and Croydon Mencap in running the Brighton marathon on the Sun 12th April 2026. This is my first marathon. My health journey all started with a couch to 5K NHS app in Feb '24. I since have been running three times a week (40k on average) and from my first fundraising run I completed in August 2024 raising £500 for a local Croydon learning disability charity... I regularly run and go to the Gym. As a NHS worker and a neurodivergent member of the NHS workforce running and exercise gives me energy and keeps me fit in demanding NHS role. Exercise is so good for wellbeing and and gives me the energy I need for my family and young children as I approach 50. During these cold, dark winter months, running and keeping fit improves mood, gives me more energy and keeps my body flexible to maintain core strength. Running is space for "ear pods in", listening to music and positive mental well-being for demanding NHS and cross systems council partnership role.
To raise funds for £1500 target I will having bake sales at the Croydon University Hospital foyer and at Council Office (BWH) in Feb/March 2026. I will also run 26.2 miles or 42.2km (That's a long way) on the 12th April. I will be running through Sussex and hope to see you there if you want to come and line the route. Great atmosphere and day out. https://www.londonmarathonevents.co.uk/brighton-marathon-weekend
Proceeds will go to two charities, Croydon Health charity supports the great work of Macmillan nurses and cancer wellbeing support and provision for patients coming into Croydon hospital and in community who require ongoing support. Many of us have been touched by cancer through family and friends and the great work in cancer support is a important cause close to my heart.
The second charity Croydon Mencap provides support to adults and children in Croydon with a learning disability. Its great work and projects empower individuals with a learning disability to be active citizens to maximise quality of life through collaboration with its members through social enterprise and to maximise quality of life and wellbeing.
