James' not so fun run

Ultra Trail Snowdonia 100km · 17 May 2025
First and foremost, thanks for considering supporting me and my eldest son Ezra’s school PTA (Ashmead Primary School, Deptford) in their 50th anniversary fundraiser to replace their treehouse playground, which was beyond repair and has been to removed, leaving quite a void. The school has a big ambition to raise £50k to do just that and I’m hoping I can raise a decent contribution.
Research shows that outdoor play promotes:
- Teamwork & Friendship Building
- Exercise & Motor Skills
- Creativity & Problem Solving
- Connection to Nature & Sensory Experiences
- Stress Reduction & Confidence
- Improved Academic Focus & Enhanced Learning
Endurance running is my equivalent ‘outdoor play’ and I’ve signed up for the Ultra Trail Snowdonia by UTMB 100km race again this 17 and 18 May, having made it to 83km last year, and I’m hoping the extra motivation of helping provide a fun and stimulating playground for thousands of South East London kids for years to come will get me to the end.
Let me be clear, this race is tough. 100km non-stop (except for refuelling checkpoints), with over 20,000ft of climbing, including two trips up Snowdon, one of which is overnight.
There’ll be live tracking so you can see how I’m getting on and you can follow my training on Strava: https://www.strava.com/athletes/102980166
