Hello everyone,

My name is Terri, and I’m raising funds to support Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF) in their mission to find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes and improve the lives of those living with this relentless condition.

In November 2024, our world was turned upside down. My beautiful, lively 4-year-old son, James, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. It felt like the ground had been pulled from beneath us. No one in our family has this condition, and we never expected it. We were shocked to learn that Type 1 diabetes can be triggered by something as simple as a virus.

Since then, life has been a constant balancing act. Monitoring blood sugar levels, counting every single carb, and injecting insulin — all while trying to let James just be a little boy. The truth is, Type 1 diabetes doesn’t care if it’s Christmas morning, his birthday, or just another ordinary Tuesday. It’s always there.

But here’s what gives us hope: the incredible advancements made in Type 1 diabetes research over the past 50 years. Without these breakthroughs, our reality would be very different, and it’s terrifying to even think about. What keeps us going is knowing that more progress is possible. And that’s why I’m turning to you for help.
