Story
What started off as a drunken conversation at the pub in November has flourished into the biggest mistake of our lives.
Have we done anything like this before? No
Why not start with a half Ironman? Should have done
Biggest obstacle along the way? The World Cup.
Why are we doing it? To raise lots of money for a cause very close to our hearts - Macmillan Cancer Support. When someone is diagnosed with cancer, the medical treatment is only half the battle. Cancer doesn't just attack the body; it completely upends a person’s life, their family, their finances, and their mental health.
A lot of people know the name Macmillan, but they don't realise the sheer scale of what the charity actually does every single day. Macmillan nurses are legendary, managing brutal side effects, and offering expert clinical care right when it’s needed most.
Taking time off work, skyrocketing heating bills (as chemo makes patients feel freezing), and traveling to hospital appointments can be financially crippling. Macmillan can give one-off, emergency cash grants to low-income families to pay for immediate crises, like paying an energy bill, or purchasing comfortable clothing/wigs.
We’re going through with this Ironman to ensure that no one has to face cancer alone. If you can spare anything at all to help us hit our target, you will be directly funding a lifeline for a family going through their darkest days.
Thank you so much,
Jamie and James
Where your money goes:
£50 could pay for a Macmillan nurse for an hour, helping people living with cancer and their families receive essential medical, practical, and emotional support.
£100 could help fund a Macmillan grant to help a family struggling with the extra costs a cancer diagnosis brings, like heating bills or travel to hospital appointments.
£163 could provide emotional support to one person living with cancer for around eight weeks, through ongoing and regular support sessions with one of the Macmillan Buddies.
