The Cause

The Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) rescues hundreds of severely injured or ill patients every year throughout the North East, North Yorkshire and Cumbria. Their doctor-led critical care teams deliver life-saving treatments at the scene of the incident whether that is on a fell top, a roadside or in a city centre. The charity responded to 2,083 call outs in 2024 alone, via their helicopter and emergency response vehicles, where they performed treatments and procedures which can mean the difference between life or death.

The Community

The Golden Smog is Stockton’s first and (self-proclaimed) best micro-pub.

For such a small place, we have a HUGE community and since opening in August 2014, together we have raised thousands and thousands of pounds for various charities.

pALEgrimage

The pALEgrimage is a yearly event where teams of Smoggies leave Teesside for various breweries scattered far and wide. These breweries donate a cask or pin of ale, the pALEgrims collect it and get it back to The Smog.

So far, so easy?

Not as easy as it sounds as the pALEgrims carry their precious cargo while walking, running or cycling from their nominated brewery back to The Golden Smog with their ale. Once all the kegs and pins are back, they are racked in the alley at The Golden Smog and the pALEgrims, their friends, family and fellow Smoggies have ourselves a brilliant beer festival with all the donated ale.

The pALEgrims are sponsored for their endeavours and every penny of the festival ale sales goes in the charity pot too with all the donations going to The Great North Air Ambulance.

Our pALEgrimage this year

Returning with a 3 strong cycling team this year (Jonny, Granty and Jamie) will be setting off to our nominated brewery, The Smokehouse in Bishop Auckland. Returning for a second year as a willing brewery offering up their Ale nectar for the greater good. We will be setting off from Stockton Saturday 15th August with an empty trailer in tow, following a light pit stop at the southern style smokehouse, We will return with the goods. taking it in turns to pull the precious cargo, earning a pot or too when we arrive at the Golden Smog Covering around 85Km, challenging climbs and our pub fit bodies in the process.
