Adventure Triple Challenge · 26 April 2025 ·

Our new adventure challenge comprises of a 29 mile cycle, a 2 mile paddle and 7.5 mile summit of Helvellyn, England’s third highest peak.

Story

Gavin decided he wanted to do a big event to celebrate reaching his 50th year on planet earth. I (Jamie) took that literally and decided we should take on an adventure race consisting of:

Bike Phase 1 - beginning at Newbiggin and extending down to Glenridding. (14 miles, 234m).

Boat Phase - Upon reaching Glenridding, teams transition to the boats phase. You’ll embark on a 2 mile circular route on the waters of Ullswater.

Bike Phase 2 - teams face the steepest section of the bike phase as they cycle to Greenside Mines. (2 miles, 160m ascent).

Hike Phase - Upon reaching Greenside Mines, teams transition to the boots phase. This involves a 7.5 mile out-and-back hike to summit Hellvellyn.

Bike Phase 3 - After completing the hike, you’ll return by bike along the scenic shores of Ullswater to the finish line. (15 miles, 308m ascent).

Now the important bit, who are we doing this to support? Rainbow Trust Children’s Charity supports families who have a child with a life-threatening or terminal illness. When a child has a serious illness, family life is turned upside down and time becomes more precious than ever. Rainbow Trust pairs each family with an expert Family Support Worker who enables them to make the most of time together, giving them practical and emotional support, for as long as is needed. Rainbow Trust supports the whole family including parents, carers, the unwell child, brothers, sisters and grandparents.

If you like watching a grumpy old man whine and complain and a less grumpy younger man taking the piss out of him, this is the event to follow! 😃
