Story
This October, I’m putting on my running shoes and taking on a challenge to raise money and awareness for men’s mental health.
Too many men still struggle in silence. Movember is working to change that by funding projects that support men’s mental health, suicide prevention and wellbeing, while encouraging more men to speak openly about how they’re really doing.
I am extremely passionate about speaking openly about mental health and breaking the stigma around bottling up our feelings. I believe no one should feel like they have to struggle in silence or put on a brave face when things aren’t okay. For too long, particularly among men, there has been an expectation to simply get on with things rather than talk about how we’re really feeling.
I want to do my part to help change that. Being open, checking in on the people around us and creating an environment where people feel comfortable talking can make a huge difference. Mental health affects all of us in one way or another, and the more we talk about it, the more we can normalise asking for help and supporting one another.
If doing this encourages even one person to open up, check in on a mate, or realise they don’t have to deal with something alone, then it’s worthwhile.
If you’re able to donate, no matter how much, I’d really appreciate your support. Every contribution will help Movember continue its important work supporting men’s mental health. And if donating isn’t possible, sharing this page or simply taking the time to check in with a mate can make a difference too.
Thank you for supporting me, Movember and, most importantly, men’s mental health.
