Story
Bexley Mencap was set up in 1971 by parent carers and provides a range of activities, services and support to enable people with a learning disability to be respected, valued and to live life to the full. They provide practical and emotional support and advice to families and carers which makes a positive difference to their lives and raise awareness within our community, advocating for people with a learning disability and their carers to have the same rights and choices as others.
They provide a self-advocacy service, a family support service and a support service giving help for supported living and living independently. This includes support for paying bills, claiming benefits and accessing services online, as well as one to one support for health appointments.
They also teach a range of life skills such as cooking, budget management and IT skills and have a weekly programme of accessible Healthy Lifestyles sports and physical activities.
To raise money for this amazing charity, Jamie, Phoebe and Samuel are going to complete the 21km walk from Eastbourne to Seaford along the Seven Sisters National Park.
