Story

I’m excited to share my upcoming multi-day adventure, walking 50 miles from Pitlochry Fire Station to Aviemore Fire Station. This journey is not just a trek; it’s a heartfelt mission to raise funds for the "James Support Group", a charity that has profoundly impacted my life.

Accompanying me will be crew members Laura McHardy, Kyle McRobert, Benjamin Brimacombe and friends Calum MacLennan, Gavin Eastwood and Dave Cullen who share my passion for making a difference. This rugged journey will take us along the river Gary, through Glen Tilt to meet the Lairig Ghru, down through Rothiemurchus and back to our fire station in Aviemore.

This experience will involve the crew walking in full firefighting kit, staying in a remote bothy and take us through breathtaking scenery, while testing our endurance and resolve.

I’m passionate about giving back to the James Support Group, which has provided invaluable support in the past. We will set off on this challenge, on October 3rd, 2025 and we are aiming to raise vital funds and awareness for the life-changing work of this charity.

If you’re able to sponsor us, every contribution will directly support the James Support Group’s mission. My target is to raise £1,000 to help continue their incredible efforts. Let’s work together to make a difference! You can follow my progress and donate via my Just Giving page. Let’s do this for the James Support Group!

About James Support Group............

Support for ALL affected by suicide & those who suffer suicidal thoughts

Whether you are a mum, dad, husband, wife or partner, brother or sister, aunt or uncle, granny, grandad, friend or colleague we are here to help you.

This group was formed because we- the family and friends of James have struggled to find any meaningful help here in the Highlands- even though the Highlands has the highest suicide rate in the UK

James Mullery was just 28 years old when his issues got too much for him, and he decided there and then to take his own life. It’s hard to believe, but he left three children behind, 5 years, 2 years, and only 10 weeks old. He also left behind his partner and all of his family and friends – We have all been affected by him ending his own life and will continue to feel the effects for a long long time to come. We are all facing a life without James, who was a lovely man. He wasn’t perfect, none of us are, but we miss him and his wicked sense of humour. James was the life and soul of a night out, and great fun to have around.

We are not councellors, just a family stricken by grief who are prepared to help others in the same situation. We have taken it upon ourselves to attend various Training events & information sessions, and actively network with other groups & organisations for the common good.

Since becoming a registered charity in October 2020, we are now able to expand our support service to cover The Scottish Highlands, where we provide monthly support groups, break out personal sessions as required, a 24/7 Helpline & various other support events throughout the year.

Monthly meetings in: Inverness, Dingwall, Invergordon, Thurso, Elgin, Fort William. And by appointment in ; Aviemore, Nairn, Ullapool & Grantown on Spey.
