Jamie’s Big Walk · 30 June 2025

We are an inclusive, member-led charity for people with Down’s syndrome, parents, caregivers, & professionals, from diagnosis through to adulthood. Our team is here for every stage of your journey. We help you find friendships, connect with families, and access professional support and advice.

Story

My incredible husband Jon Beadman died in March: we’d been together 33 awesome years and I’ve lost the kindest and most amazing soul-mate and partner.

After a wonderful but heartbreaking celebration of his life in our local church in Gatley in South Manchester we laid him to rest next to his Mum in the family church in Long Newton in Cleveland.

Our God-daughter Ella has Down’s Syndrome but that has never stopped her living her best life. Jon adored her, and she him: just look at the photo of them together!

To honour Jon and to raise money for Ella and her friends I’m going on a very big walk from the home we shared in Gatley to where Jon is resting now in Long Newton to collect him in spirit, and then walk together with him to the place we were happiest in the whole world: Whitby. The very big walk of 150 miles will take nine days , including crossing both the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Parks, which adds over 12,000 feet of climbing and descending.

I’m setting-out on Monday 30th June 2025, aiming to reach Jon on the afternoon of Sunday 6th July, and then Whitby on Tuesday 8th.

If you know and liked Jon or me, or we’d helped you, or we’d had fun with you, or you just want to do a good thing, please click on the link and donate. It would mean so much to me if I hit my target.

Cheers.
