1000 km of cycling - Summer 2025

Formed in 1980, we have a proud history of using Volleyball to increase the aspirations and ambitions of young people in North Staffordshire. We are passionate about making a difference through our sport, supporting our members and embracing newcomers alike.

Story

Each year I set myself a different cycling challenge to raise money for a local charity.

This summer (by end of Sept) I am cycling 1,000+ km to raise c. £2,000 to support Newcastle Under-Lyme Volleyball Club.

My employer Mace Consult Ltd will match fund the first £600 – this means if I can raise £600 this is automatically doubled to £1,200.

I would be delighted if you could make any contribution to this cause – the club has such a huge impact on local community – I am hoping that collectively all your donations will give something back to the club to give all the volunteers the gratitude they hugely deserve!

All donations welcomed big and small.

There is more information about the club below:

Newcastle (Staffs) Volleyball Club was formed back in 1980 and since that time has had a strong junior development tradition that the club is extremely proud of, and is the core of the club.

The club’s primary purpose is to support and enable members of the local community to gain the life changing benefits of taking part in sport through volleyball... Physical health, friendships, fun, community, contribution.

The club registered as a charity in 2016 (charity nr 1166178) and since 2020 have been focussed on trying to serve more members of the community – they set a goal in their 40th year of doubling in size by their 50th anniversary in 2030... but achieved their target within 2 years!

The club now has over 300 members, provide over 30 hours per week of training time, and have 6 senior teams and around 25 junior teams each season.

This season some of the club members will play for the England national men's teams, men's u22, u19 and u17 teams, and the women u19, as well as others training with the u17s.

The club doesn’t have their own facility so the majority the costs are to cover venue hire. In 2023 they invested £4.5k of their own club money to refurbish and upgrade a local school facility to be able to host training and matches - new lines on the floor, holes drilled for posts and posts purchased. No public money or sponsors came forward.

The members include 7 year olds, England internationals plus social members in their 50s and 60s who enjoy playing weekly for fun! Your fundraising support will help the club to purchase new nets and balls, which they are in desperate need for their junior teams.
