Our mission is to make the discoveries that defeat cancer. Our vision is that people can live their lives free of cancer as a life-threatening disease. We work on all cancer types incl. children's cancers, pancreatic, brain and lung cancer. Please support our work and help us defeat cancer.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

In 2020 One of our young Daughters at the age of 20 years old was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non smoking lung cancer. A significant number of people diagnosed do not respond to drug treatment and the ones that do inevitably become resistant. Research relies heavily on funding in order to explore why this happens and to study how this can be understood better.

We are fundraising for The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR), specifically for research being carried out by Dr Paul Huang. The ICR is one of the world’s leading cancer research organisations, and the most successful academic institution globally at discovering new targeted treatments for cancer.

Dr Huang is taking on one of the biggest challenges in cancer research and one of the biggest contributors to cancer deaths worldwide: drug resistance. Solving this problem will bring us one step closer to improving cure rates in patients. His team seeks to understand the underlying reasons why tumours go on to develop resistance and find new ways to effectively treat patients who relapse as a result of acquired drug resistance. In doing so, they also aim to discover more accurate methods to stratify and predict which patients are likely to receive long-term benefit from therapies designed to target the genetic mutations driving their cancer.

Focusing on lung cancers, a cancer type with particularly poor patient outcomes, Dr Huang’s team have a track record in the successful use of cutting edge research techniques to deliver new strategies for combating drug resistance and identifying robust predictive and prognostic tests. Dr Huang also leads on translational studies for several clinical trials of novel drug agents in lung cancer, working closely with clinical collaborators such as Professor Sanjay Popat at the Royal Marsden Hospital and other oncology centres worldwide.

Your donations will help to support experiments that underpin and drive the knowledge needed for Dr Huang and his team to reach their ultimate goal: to deliver an individualised approach to treatment and improve the long-term outcomes in lung cancer patients who currently have a poor prognosis.

The Clark family and friends would like you to support us in reaching our goal and beyond by sponsoring us during the tough Mudder event on the 12th August 2023. Thank you.
