Our Big Adventure
A pilgrimage in memory of my beloved Brian, to raise money for Mary Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge .
This summer, our grandaughter Chloe, her partner Simon and I are taking on a special journey – walking 116km along the final stretch of the Camino Portugues, from Tui to Santiago de Compostela, over 11 days.
This iconic pilgrimage route winds through the stunning landscapes of Galicia in northern Spain. Along the way, we’ll pass through beautiful towns and villages including: Tui, O Porriño, Redondela, Arcade, Pontevedra, Caldas de Reis, Padrón, and finally , our destination - the Cathedral at Santiago de Compostela.
By walking this full section, we’ll each be eligible to receive the official Compostela Certificate – a meaningful symbol of the journey and the purpose behind it.
In my case, it is to fulfil a dream which my Bri and I had of maybe completing part of the Pilgrimage together ! This followed one occasion, when we were driving across Spain and looked up to see procession of people on the path above ! We climbed up from the road to walk a little way ,following in their footsteps until we had to turn back to the car !
One day ….. we said..!!
But not to be!
At least not together!
So now, at the age of 84, and with the support of grandaughter Chloe, who is a physiotherapist, and her paramedic air ambulance partner Simon, together we hope to fulfil one of dear Bri’s and my own many dreams, and at the same time, raising much needed funds for our wonderful Mary Stevens Hospice in Stourbridge! We will be carrying a few of my darling Bri’s ashes with us so that in that way, he will have made the journey with us , and will be with us every step of the way!
We have set up the Just Giving link in the hope that some of you might feel able to help our local Hospice with much needed funds !
Bless you all and thank you for taking the time to read this.
