Story

****Update

Due to having surgery, I am no longer taking part in London 2026. However, I’m excited to say I will be taking part in London 2027 and still for Tommys — whoop!!

I’m also adding the Inverness Marathon 2026 and Dava Ultra to my challenge.

Hi there,

If you’ve found your way to this page, chances are you already know a bit of my story — but just in case you don’t, grab a cup of coffee and settle in, because it’s a long one.

Running has always been my sanctuary. It’s where I clear my head and find my strength. Over the years, I’ve completed many races, including the London Marathon in 2017 (a lucky ballot entry!). I initially took up running to lose weight and managed to lose 7.5 stone — all in preparation for starting a family.

In November 2017, I fell pregnant with my first child, Findley. I felt incredibly lucky. But on the 15th of July 2018, I heard the words no parent ever wants to hear: “I’m sorry, there is no heartbeat.” On the 17th of July, at 10pm, I met my beautiful baby boy, born sleeping. He changed our lives forever.

In February 2019, at a 16-week reassurance scan, we discovered our second baby, Robyn, had a slow heartbeat and was measuring small. She sadly passed away later that day, and on the 26th of February, I gave birth to her. Our second loss.

Throughout this time, I was supported by an incredible consultant at Aberdeen Maternity Unit. She truly cared and sought advice from colleagues across the UK to help create a plan for our future. Unfortunately, I went on to have two early miscarriages in July and November 2019. Testing revealed I had lupus anticoagulant in my blood, and I was diagnosed with Antiphospholipid Syndrome (APS).

In January 2020, I found out I was pregnant again. With close monitoring and treatment, including blood thinners, we welcomed our precious rainbow baby into the world in September 2020. We were beyond grateful to our team for their care, dedication, and the research that helped make her safe arrival possible.

But we still didn’t feel our family was complete. We left it to the universe. In March 2021, I experienced a ruptured ectopic pregnancy, followed by three consecutive first-trimester losses throughout 2022. By then, my consultant was working closely with Tommy’s and Professor Alex Heazell. He personally reviewed my case and offered new guidance. A fresh plan was created.

In December 2022, I became pregnant again, and we followed the new treatment plan. Sadly, at a routine 14-week scan in February 2023, we heard those devastating words for the ninth time. Our baby had died. Professor Heazell met with me and my husband afterwards, and his support, kindness, and expertise brought us some much-needed comfort.

Then, in August 2023, I became pregnant for the 11th time. With our plan in place, breath held once again — and this time, we got to bring our baby home. Our beautiful second rainbow, Freya Lena Law, was born in April 2024 after a pregnancy supported by steroids, and blood thinners . She completed our family. We feel so incredibly lucky and thankful for every one of our children — those here with us and those watching over us.

I truly don’t know where we would be without the research that has been done — or the support that Tommy’s provides. Pregnancy loss remains tragically underfunded and misunderstood. Through Tommy’s resources, I’ve met so many others who’ve also found support and hope.

So here I am, running the London Marathon once again — this time, in memory of my beautiful babies in heaven, and in celebration of the two precious rainbows I hold in my arms. I’m doing it to raise awareness, to honour my journey, and to help others walking a similar path.

I’m fundraising for Tommy’s, a charity that works to end the heartbreak of baby loss and make pregnancy and birth safer for everyone. Tommy’s funds life-saving research, provides specialist care, and offers trusted information and support to families.

Every donation brings us closer to answers, breakthroughs, and lives saved. Thank you so much for reading, for sharing, and for being part of this journey.

With love and gratitude

Jan
