Story

Thanks for visiting my page.

As some of you will know, my dad was diagnosed with myeloma in 2010. Finding out that this giant of a man, showing no symptoms, had an incurable blood cancer in his bone marrow was hard. Harder still was his possibly short life expectancy. But dad has faced his diagnosis and treatment with the same strength, practicality, determination and positivity that he brings to all aspects of his life. 16 years on, he continues to defy the odds and, even whilst navigating treatments, has spent years raising awareness and supporting Myeloma UK provide patients & their families with the hope of better treatments and outcomes. This hope, of living longer and better lives with myeloma, has served the family well as we got the news that another dear family member also has myeloma. They are my inspiration.

Why Myeloma UK?

Myeloma still doesn't get the attention it needs. It's difficult to detect and too many people are diagnosed late; symptoms (pain, easily broken bones, fatigue, recurring infection) are often mistaken for something else, like ageing.

Myeloma UK are the only UK charity focused on myeloma and its related conditions. They:

- Fund ground-breaking research on the development, detection and treatment of myeloma to help improve the future of those living with it

- Raise awareness so people get diagnosed and treated earlier

- Work with healthcare professionals to improve care and access to cutting-edge treatments

- Provide support designed to help people with myeloma, their families and their friends live their lives to the full and manage their myeloma

The challenge

Those that know me will know I'm not a natural runner - but I’ll be running the London Marathon in 2027. I'm not doing this because I've always wanted to run a marathon - in fact it's something I said I would never do. I know it's going to hurt. I know there will be moments both in training and on the day where I want to give up - but myeloma patients don't get that luxury. If people like my family members can face their diagnoses and treatments with the strength and grace that they do, then I can stand with them and face 26.2 miles. So I’m lacing up my trainers- because every step we take gets us closer to a future where no one faces myeloma alone. And if stubbornness counts as fuel, I’ll be fine!

How you can help

I’m aiming to raise £4,000 for Myeloma UK so they can continue their life-changing work. Every donation, big or small, makes a difference. If you are not in the position to donate, sharing this page still makes a difference.

Together, we are the cure.
