Team: Neurosurgeons running to help change the future of brain tumour treatment

Malaga Marathon · 8 November 2026

The Geoffrey Jefferson Brain Research Centre develops new treatments to provide better outcomes and transform the lives of people with neurological disease, such as brain tumours and stroke.

Story

Consultant neurosurgeons Jane Halliday, Julian Evans and Daniel Holsgrove are taking on the Malaga Marathon to raise funds for brain tumour research at the Geoffrey Jefferson Brain Research Centre…

We are running the Malaga Marathon this November to support pioneering research led by researcher Dr Tom Kisby, from the GJBRC at The University of Manchester and Salford Royal Neurosurgeon Mr David Coope, which aims to improve outcomes for people diagnosed with glioblastoma. Research has identified a previously unknown window after surgery when treatments may be better able to reach remaining tumour cells.

The next step is to establish whether this same window exists in patients. Funds raised through this challenge will help support a clinical imaging study, including patient recruitment, MRI scans and data analysis, providing the evidence needed to move this promising research towards a future clinical trial.

As neurosurgeons, we see first-hand the devastating impact brain tumours have on patients and families. By supporting our marathon challenge, you will be helping researchers take an important step towards developing new treatments that could improve outcomes for people diagnosed with glioblastoma.

Thank you for your support.
