I am back from the Kumano Kudo Pilgrimage Trek in Japan on behalf of the Chartwell Cancer Trust.

What a fantastic adventure it was. Four days up and down undulating paths over a mountain range. Through villages and past Shinto shrines and Buddhist Temples. The first day trekking was straight in – up hill till we reached 870m, then carried on up and down all day. It was challenging terrain, Over roots, uneven paths through pine forest, past rivers and streams, getting to the daily destination on time to catch a bus to our overnight accommodation. The last day was the toughest one ending at the spectacular Kumano Kudo Nashi Taisha Grand Shrine and Waterfall after a 12 mile walk and a elevation gain of 3886 ft.

The warm weather was a good thing. Not sure how it would have been in the rain! Great views of the mountain ranges of the area on the way. It was a privilege to have done it and with all your generous donations making it really worthwhile.

The walking didn’t stop there. Guided tour in Kyoto all day, walking, metro, buses. And in Tokyo the same again, many steps through the bustling, colourful city full of ancient and modern style.

I can't thank you all enough, it will really help the Chartwell Cancer Trust continue their great support of the Chartwell Ward in the Princess Royal Hospital.

Over the years I have lost both close family and friends to cancer. My best friend also had a close call and was treated at the Chartwell unit at the PRUH.

I am now taking on another adventure to raise further money for The Chartwell Cancer Trust. This is a fantastic local charity committed to improving the lives of cancer and leukaemia patients and oncology communities and enhancing staffing levels, clinical research, improving facilities., The charity also funds The Chartwell Children's Cancer Trust.
