Story
I’m going to be running the Liverpool half Marathon in March and the Chester Full Marathon in October in memory of my wonderful Dad, My Hero!
This is his story in short .,..
My Dad found a lump in his arm at the end of 2021.
By June 2022 after undergoing radiotherapy he had a full arm amputation.
He took on his new challenge of navigating life with one arm and did it with ease, he never complained and found solutions to everything he could. We were all just so relieved the cancer was in his arm and could be removed as it was such a rare and aggressive cancer.
However after having consistent and regular checks for almost 2 years, we found out in June 2024 that the cancer had spread and he had secondaries on his lungs. (the cancer was missed on a scan the previous year, but that’s a whole other story)
Following this he had a massive lung operation where a huge part of his lung was removed. He was told he would need chemotherapy but this was more of a precaution as the operation had been successful. Again he went on to make a speedy recovery as he had done before.
In October 2024 on a routine Pet scan before starting treatment we found that the cancer had spread and beyond cure. After 2 lots of spinal surgery he lost his fight on 9th Dec 2024.
My dad was a hero through it all and I will be forever proud of him and his strength resilience and courage . I want to give something back and do him proud, that’s why I’m running this race.
God we miss him so much it hurts but the love we had for him and him for us and the strength and resilience he taught us - we go on.
I’ll be raising money for clatterbridge hoping to help with research. My dad’s cancer was so rare the experts didn’t even know too much about it. I want to help more people in the future fight this horrible disease as I know so many of us and our loved ones have been or will be affected by this awful disease in some way.
If you know me you will know I don’t run and I am not a runner (unless it’s last orders at the bar 😆) but I’m ready for this challenge and the training it will take 💪
