Once again, I am running the London Marathon and raising funds for East Meru Community School - a school which is very close to my heart. The school opened in 2012 with the aim of providing a quality primary school education for the poorest children in Maruvango - a village nestled in the foothills of Mt Meru and within sight of Mt Kilimanjaro. Children are taught in small classes and provided with meals, uniforms and all learning resources.

The school not only provides a quality education, but all the uniforms, shoes, furniture etc are made by local villagers, most often parents. All workers are paid well, given meals and looked after in every way possible. Construction work is also completed by locals.

The school aims to be as sustainable as possible - with solar panels on the office (in an area where there is no grid electricity), water collection from every building and an area for growing food crops.

All funds to support the school are raised by amazing sponsors and donors from around the world and sponsorship payments have remained the same for many years. Unfortunately Tanzania is experiencing a big cost of living hike, as in many other parts of the world. It is to this end that we need to raise additional funds without burdening our current sponsors if at all possible. If you are able to donate, even the smallest amount, it will help considerably towards the cost of a child's education and enable the school to retain its staff and maintain the quality education it has been providing now for the past 12 years.
