Story
I'm taking part in the Great North Run to support families facing dementia because I personally know, or have known a total of 16 people who are living with, or have lived through this most horrible of situations that robs them of the ability to remember, think, or make decisions that interfere so dramatically doing everyday activities. Imagine not being able to recognise, or be recognised by your loved ones... Most of us know someone who has been effected by Dementia in some way, whether directly, or by knowing a family member who is caring for someone with Dementia. We see & hear about the heartbreaking situation that it throws people into. There is currently no cure for Dementia..... on race day I intend to "Mark the Miles" & dedicate a section of my run to each of these very special 16 people.....
Dementia UK is the specialist dementia nurse charity. Our nurses, called Admiral Nurses, provide life-changing care to families affected by all forms of dementia, including Alzheimer's disease. They help people with dementia stay independent for longer, and support the people caring for them so they have the strength to cope with the bad days, and the energy to enjoy the good days. They have the time to listen and the knowledge to solve problems, helping families take back control when they are struggling.
