Story
Thank you so much for visiting our Trek the Great Wall of China page. This is going to be quite a challenging event, trekking over 8 hours a day, ascents and lots of different terrain.
For those who know me, even if you hadn't met him, you'd have certainly heard of my Dad "Our Eric". Sadly, he passed away on 27th August 2025. After being diagnosed with cancer 2 years earlier, he remained fiercely independent, still living in his own home.
However in the weeks before he passed, we were fortunate to have the support of St Luke's Hospice in Winsford. As a family we knew of St Luke's, hearing anecdotes that the staff and the care they provide was excellent.
But, any expectations were exceeded when we experienced their support and care for our Dad and for us as a family. I think it's fair to say, that for the 2 weeks he was there, they looked after him like family. And they supported us too. Taking time to get to know us and listening to our concerns. One of the nurses summed it up, when she said that we no longer had to be Dad's carers, we could be daughters and son, just being there.
We can't thank St Luke's enough for the care and compassion we experienced. But we can raise funds. I am doing this trek in "Our Eric's" memory and hope that with support from family, friends, colleagues, friends of friends etc. we can go some way to repaying some of their kindness.
Please dig deep if you possibly can and help us raise as much as possible
