Story
I am taking part in this Sahara Trek 2026 for St Nicholas Hospice Care in loving memory of Martin, my husband and my best friend.
As most of you know Martin was diagnosed in July 2024 with Sarcomatoid Mesothelioma, a preventable, incurable cancer from his exposure to asbestos over 40 years ago, which was laying dormant in him for all those years.
As you will also know the hospice was the best thing that could have happened to us for our journey together through to Martin’s passing at home, supported with love and care. We visited the hospice regularly and our fabulous consultant Dr Kelvin Bengston enabled us the strength and support to live and enjoy our time together wherever we were in the world. When we left after a visit we felt 10 feet tall and could take on the next challenge, well this is my challenge.
“We” signed up for this last year and it was part of Martin’s legacy to see me raise funds to enable other families that are touched with grief to receive some of the Gold Standard of care that we did. Martin wanted to wait until he had passed to raise this money as he said “people will feel sorry!” I don’t want sorry, I just want people who someday if they need these services feel seen and heard, which is what we felt.
Please help us raise these funds, I learnt today that it costs £22,000 a day to run this Hospice, please dig deep.
