The Motor Neurone Disease Association (Isle of Man) Limited was set up in 1993 with the aim of providing practical help and support to make life a little more comfortable for people living with Motor Neurone Disease on the island. We are an independent Manx registered Charity. (No. 605)

Story

"I'm embarking on a 100km charity walk across the stunning South Downs to raise vital funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Last year, a close family member was diagnosed with MND, and I'm determined to make a difference in the fight against this devastating disease. Every step I take will bring us closer to finding a cure and improving the lives of those affected. I'd be grateful for your support and donation to help me reach my fundraising goal."

"Whilst some of the money raised stays in the Isle of Man to support those effected by MND, the remainder comes back to mainland UK to aid research into a cure for this terrible disease."

Motor neurone disease (MND) is a progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting.

MND can affect how you walk, talk, eat, drink and breathe. However, not all symptoms necessarily happen to everyone and it is unlikely they will all develop at the same time, or in any specific order.

Although there is currently no cure for MND, symptoms can be managed to help you achieve the best possible quality of life.

We need your support.

£160 could fund a specialist communication app for a tablet/smartphone/laptop to enable a person with MND to continue to communicate with loved ones

£280 could fund the co-ordination of care for a person with MND at a care centre for a year

£1000 could pay for detailed analysis of the DNA of someone with MND to help us better understand the causes of the disease
