Story

THE TEAM:

I am joining the Huntington's Disease (HD) fundraising team again for this year's Great South Run 5k, raising awareness and helping local people affected by HD.

Team Captain: HARLEY SALTER

Organiser: VANESSA SALTER (HARLEY’S MUM)

Other Official Team Members (see links below): EDEN SALTER, ALEXANDER GRAHAM, MICHAEL GREGORY, PAUL SALTER AND AMANDA BOSSOM, and now ME!!!

I was inspired to join Team HDA when I signed up to do the Spinnaker Tower abseil with Team Captain Harley and others last year.

After this was postponed due to bad weather I decided to join Harley and his team to do an indoor skydive instead.

It was then I met more of the HD community. I got talking to Alex (who is also running the 5K) and his grandma. Alex has HD and his grandma has been a carer for over 40 years to her husband, son and daughter who also had HD and have since died. She is now caring for Alex.

Inspired by their story I was determined to do more to help them and others affected by HD. I did the Great South Run 5K for HDA last year. I successfully did the Spinnaker Tower abseil in May. I was inspired even more by a lady with HD who also did the abseil with us.

I did the 5k last year as a walk. I decided to challenge myself to jog it this year. I started the Couch to 5k in June and am now feeling confident I will cross this year's finish line faster and stronger than before.

I am proud to be a TUTU COOL HERO for HD.

All team members will be running/walking in tutus showing that we really are “TUTU COOL” HEROES FOR HUNTINGTONS!!!

We are all running for friends or family impacted by Huntington’s Disease. Some are running because they themselves have Huntington’s Disease. We are all united in doing this because we want to show up for those affected by the cruellest of all illnesses.

Money raised will support families across the UK living with Huntington’s including directly supporting families specifically in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. It will also help fund the ongoing research into a cure.
