At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

You're probably thinking "here comes another fundraising" page, but before you scroll past please hear my story..

A lot of you know my wonderful Dad, a kind, loving, intelligent man. The man that has been nothing but the most gentle, loving, caring Dad I could wish for. He has been a constant role model for both of my children, they both adore their grandad. More recently becoming a great grandad to our little Ariella and the bond they have is just so wholesome.

Dad always had many a story about his adventures throughout his lifetime! Stories of sailing adventures, climbing Snowden, cycling his pushbike from Coventry to Devon on many a weekend just to camp when he was a young lad, to being a station fire officer, working for the private ambulance service, British Drug Houses and later in life working for Metalbox. Moving to Spain with Mum, helping to build their home, having a quad bike, motorbikes, the stories are endless and I love every minute of hearing about them.

The devastating end to this is that Dad has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and now struggles to remember our adventures. This cruel debilitating disease is changing his life and ours, he's vulnerable and dependant on all of us as a family. I can see Dad struggling daily, he get's sad and frustrated that he is no longer able to remember things. I've told him on many occasions that our heads have stored those memories for him now and we will remind him but this isnt how it should be..

I have struggled so hard with this and I know Mum, Beth and Keinan have as well. The normal feelings of "why Dad, why us", life is cruel but these are the cards we have been dealt and we are dealing with each day as it comes. The future for us is only going to get tougher but as a family we will get through it.

I know this scares my Dad so much, this is why I want to fundraise, so money can be invested into much needed research into this awful disease and hopefully, sometime in the future, other families will be spared this unpredictable journey we are embarking on..

So with all this in mind I'm going to face one of my biggest fears and jump out of a plane with my best mate, Jude! Please, if you can only spare £1 to help us out it would really help make a difference!

If you've got this far, thank you for taking the time to read my story ❤
