Running for a cause: Combining the passion of running and supporting children through -> Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
Target: $1200
What is T1D: The exact cause of T1D (also known as juvenile diabetes) is unknown. The pancreas makes little to no insulin. There is no cure. Complications from T1D can lead to disabilities and can become life threatening.
My story: *** On the 4th of July 2022, Lukas (the blonde boy in the photo) - my now 7 year old son was rushed to the hospital after a blood test discovered he was hyperglycemic and dangerously close to entering a coma. On this date - most Americans celebrate independence day. However, my son was admitted to the hospital for a week learning about T1D and how to manage it daily.
This diagnosis was a huge shock and took a significant adjustment to our families daily routine. We have to constantly count and monitor carb intakes and manage his insulin levels 24/7 requiring a minimum of 5 injections a day to keep him alive. The better we are able to teach him and manage this disease, the less disabilities and life threatening circumstances he may have later in life.
*** This year I will be running the Berlin Marathon for the 4th time **** this time wearing the JDRF Jersey to support my son Lukas --> T1D awareness for all children diagnosed and to support funding to cure, treat and prevent this T1D in the hopes that during his lifetime we can find a cure.
There are millions of T1D warriors like my son Lukas. Please help support this cause! Your money will go to:
- Funding world-class research approved and administered by an international research program to cure, treat and prevent type 1 diabetes
- Making sure research moves forward and treatments are delivered as fast as possible
- Giving support and a voice to people with type 1 and their families
- Joining a global movement to create a world without type 1
Every £ or $ raised makes a huge difference, so please give whatever you can to support Lukas and JDRF.
