Story
Those who have spent more than 5 minutes with me are probably aware of how much music has played such a key part in my life, giving me so many incredible opportunities and experiences that I couldn't begin to list them all. Getting to play to people on stage with some of your best friends at venues across the country is something I've been incredibly fortunate to experience, and I love every second I get to do it. Above all though, through music I've met some of the most amazing people who have shaped my life and given me so much happiness.
On April 6th I'll be running the Brighton marathon. 42.195km of tarmac, wind, and most likely rain… I've decided that alongside this, I would like to raise money for Drake Music, an organization that is breaking down the barriers that prevent disabled musicians from fully experiencing the benefits that music can provide. By fundraising for them, we can help to provide opportunities for those with disabilities to be a part of music groups, have 1-to-1 tuition lessons, or even have adaptive instruments made to support them in playing. They're helping to break down the barriers to music and making it accessible for everyone, creating genuine equality and allowing people to discover new passions they never knew existed.
Here are a couple of ways that our money can help:
• £10 can pay for transport so a young disabled person can attend a music session.
• £100 can cover the cost of an expert music technologist to lead an inspiring session with a group of older disabled people living in a residential setting.
• £1000 provides a school with an instrument making project and leaves a lasting impact by training teachers so many disabled children benefit over the long term.
By donating, we can help to create a world where everyone can make a bit of noise, tell their story, and be heard. Please donate if you can; we can make a difference. Thank you for reading 😊
