Story

As some of you maybe aware, both my grandad and dad were diagnosed with terminal cancer within 1 week of eachother early December 2024. Unfortunately, my grandad lost his battle within 4 weeks of his diagnosis and my dad is still battling through like the absolute trooper he is!

I honestly cannot put into words how grateful I am to Weston Hospice Care for the outstanding care they provided to my grandad during his last few weeks. I was incredibly fortunate to be with him in his final days and witness firsthand how caring and supportive the team at Weston Hospicecare were. Nothing was ever too much, the countless early hours phonecalls, the endless questions, and the constant fear we had. We were always met with genuine kindness and reassurance. I know my grandad was just another person they had to visit, but you would have never known, they treated him and all of us like family, he was not just ‘another patient’.

As much as I’m struggling to write this, I know myself and my family will endure this again, we’re not sure when, but we know it will come. My dad is my best friend, he is my absolute rock and to know the last few months are going to repeat itself, completely destroys me. However, I do find comfort knowing that Weston Hospicecare is there, I know they will be with my dad every step of the way, as they have already shown with him and my grandad.

Completing this 30 mile walk is just a small token of appreciation for Weston Hospicecare and I will endeavour to find ways of being able to give back to them for all they have done and are continuing to do, not just for my family but for others too.

Receiving an end-of-life diagnosis can be difficult, not just for the patient but also for their loved ones. At Weston Hospicecare, their team of palliative care experts are dedicated to working together to provide specialist support. Their social, emotional, psychological, spiritual and physical care helps guide people through one of the most difficult experiences they will ever face. With only 20% of their funding coming from the NHS, they have to raise £5.5 million each year to fund their care - something that's only made possible by our community. If you are able, please help support Weston Hospicecare providing a donation, no matter how small ❤️

Thank you, the Mutch family.
