Do you want to hear something really funny...? Wait for it... I have been asked to run the London Marathon 2024 on behalf of the amazing charity, MYELOMA UK. All they ask of me is to complete the 26.2 miles and raise £2000 or more!

Raising the money will not be an issue because of all you generous people out there. The real problem is ME... As I type this out, I can barely run one hundred yards without being breathless, and also carry some excess baggage!

Like a lot of people, completing the London Marathon is on their "bucket list" of things to do, and I am determined to tick this one off and raise some much needed money for MYELOMA UK. For those of you who don't know, myeloma is a rare type of blood cancer. This charity is a valuable source of information and support for those going through myeloma and for those caring for loved ones. One of their initiatives, of which I am part, is the peer buddy scheme, where someone who has been through "it" can offer support to those who are awaiting treatment or under treatment.

Most of you are aware that I suffer from this currently incurable cancer. Since 2009, it has been a rollercoaster ride of chemotherapy, radiotherapy and, in 2014, a stem cell transplant. Yet, here I still am, checked every 3 months and in remission. Long may that continue; however, I am aware that, at some point, further intervention will be needed, unless that cure can be found. So, as the saying goes: "make hay whilst the sun shines"... And that is what I intend to do!

I have 6 months to get "race fit". Your financial generosity will spur me on during the winter training runs and on the gruelling race day (21st April). If you're there or watching on TV, I'll be dressed in all-orange attire.
