Story
On the 21st of June, I’m taking on a challenge of cycling over 200 miles in a single day as part of an incredible event called ‘Chase the Sun’.
Starting at 4:30am on the beach at Whitley Bay, I’ll ride westward across the country, aiming to catch the sun setting into the sea in Ayr, Scotland. With over 12,000 feet of climbing along the way, it’s going to be an unforgettable and demanding journey.
I’m not doing it alone — I’ll be riding alongside Chris Owen and Wayne Thornton, and as with them, I’m riding for a cause.
I’m personally riding to raise money for the Gelder Charitable Trust, a fund created in March 2020 following the sudden loss of a colleague, and friend. The Trust exists to provide urgent support for those working in Lincolnshire’s construction industry who find themselves in unexpected hardship due to sudden or tragic events. It’s a cause rooted in care, compassion, and community — and one I’m proud to support.
But there’s another cause very close to my heart. Part of the money raised will also go towards raising awareness and supporting families affected by rare genetic conditions. In agreement with the Trust’s trustees, a portion of the funds will be donated to charities working in this space.
I’m so grateful to Gelder Group for supporting this effort by lending us a welfare vehicle for the ride and to our Commercial Manager, Joe Allmond, who’s generously giving up his time to act as our support driver. Without people like Joe and the team at Gelder, challenges like this would be even tougher.
And if that wasn’t enough, just a few days later — on the following Thursday — and alongside my wife Jodie, I’ll be taking part in the annual C2C2C ride, a 100-mile charity ride from Lincoln across the Wolds and back again.
This is more than just a ride. It’s about making a real difference in people’s lives. So, if you’re able to donate — no matter how small — please know that every pound will help. It will support two causes that truly matter, and it will definitely help push me through those final miles.
Thank you so much for your support — it means the world!
