Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I am dedicating this page in support of my good friend and ex work colleague Gary Wynn.

Gary was just your average family guy in his 50’s when he went for a routine screening at his GP Surgery. Unfortunately the results came back with raised PSA levels. There was no warnings and no signs. Since the diagnosis Gary strength and determination has been inspiring. He conquered his fear of flying by travelling to Spain to see his old school mate who he hadn’t seen for years. He also has managed to fulfill a lifetime ambition by converting an old rundown schoolhouse and converting it into a charming holiday let in Hexham. It is now listed on www.cottages.com. Search The School Rooms to see what an amazing transformation he has achieved.

Gary fights on everyday with this disease. He has good and bad days but he always has a smile and tries to find the strength to be himself with his unique sense of humour for his family and friends.

So, with this in mind every step I take for this cause is going to be dedicated to him and his supporting family.

There are around 52,300 new prostate cancer cases in the UK every year.

In males in the UK, prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer and it doesn’t pick and choose….It can happen to any of us as my story above confirms.

In the UK, about 1 in 8 men will get prostate cancer in their lifetime. Prostate cancer mainly affects men over 50, and your risk increases with age. With this in mind I strongly recommend all men around this age to see their GP once a year and get checked out.

Like most types of cancer, it can help to find cancers at an early stage, when they are likely to be easier to treat.
