To promote community participation in the sport of rugby football in Reading and the surrounding area, particularly but not exclusively amongst underrepresented groups such as young people from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds, women and girls and people of mixed ability.

Story

Reading Rugby Football Club, in Berkshire, UK is a successful, vibrant community rugby club, offering sport and social activities to a very wide range of people. We have 3 men’s teams, a women’s side, male veterans, walking rugby and mixed ability rugby teams. Our Youth section is extensive, with boys and girls playing from U6 to U11, junior boys U12 to U18, and teenage girls at U12, U14, U16 and U18. That’s a total of 23 sections. On top of this, RRFC is a centre for didi rugby (for 2 – 6 year-olds), and the social home of the Berkshire Banshees wheelchair rugby team.

Add up our players, social members, Youth parents and Vice Presidents and we have over 900 members. If the families and close friends are taken into account, we have a strong influence on the sporting and social aspects of life for around 2,500 – 3,000 people in and around Reading.

We aspire to be the best community rugby club in the central Thames Valley, with the widest possible membership and a full range of rugby and social experiences.

Like many community clubs, maintenance and repairs to the clubhouse is an ongoing challenge. Recently, the continuous wet weather has caused major damage, that has resulted in the clubhouse being forced to shut, and the cancelation of summer bookings.

This request is for members of the rugby club, friends, past members and rugby supporters, to help with some fundraising, to get the clubhouse open again as soon as possible.
