Story

My wife Lucy was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer four years ago, and from that moment, our lives changed forever. It began with what seemed like nothing more than mild indigestion. There was no severe pain, nothing to suggest anything serious. She adjusted her diet, cut out acidic foods, and carried on as normal. But after a couple of weeks, something still didn’t feel right.

Trusting her instincts, she went to the GP. Initial checks showed abdominal tenderness, and blood tests were arranged. Within days, everything escalated.

By late April 2022, Lucy was admitted to our local hospital following abnormal results, with pain now radiating into her back. A CT scan confirmed the devastating news we never expected: a tumour in her pancreas.

Through it all, she showed a strength and resilience I have never known. She was the bravest person I have ever met, facing everything with grace and without complaint, always with her beautiful, radiant smile.

This August, I will be walking the 800km Camino Francés to raise money for a cause in Lucy’s memory and to help raise awareness of the early symptoms of pancreatic cancer.

Earlier diagnosis saves lives, but only if symptoms are recognised in time.
