Story

I think many of people will already know I am not one to say no to a marathon and are probably wondering why on earth am I here, but for the first time I want to head out and run with a purpose knowing that every step taken is a step closer to helping those in need when it comes to their mental health and show people how I got here in the first place.

Unfortunately my mumma took her own life in 2015 for reasons we will never know and it shook me and my baby brothers world upside down, I never thought we'd come out on the other side. I can however say that 9 years later my tragic loss has made me resilient and confident with a "I can do anything" attitude (which can be worrying at times) thanks to my nearest and dearest. I have always relied on sport to help me become the best version of myself but it wasnt until my mum's passing that it became my escape. Watching my baby brother Zyon run a marathon for our mum in 2018 inspired me more than he knows which is where the journey began and watching my best friend Ben run and raise in memory of my mum last year at the Asics 10k, I knew this year was my time to put my thoughts to actions.

From the outside, people will see me doing yet another marathon, but I see it as another marathon that proves to me just how far ive come with my own mental health, that there is a light at the end of this very long tunnel and that my mum is the one pushing me to that finish line during every single life battle I face, it never stops after 26.2 miles.

I will be raising money for Sport in Mind who believe there's a sport or physical activity out there for everyone and their aim is to ensure every single person in the country has the opportunity to improve their mental health through a physical activity session they enjoy.

In addition to delivering physical activity programs to improve the lives of people experiencing mental health problems, Sport in Mind also educates people about mental illness and the benefits of being physically active. Sadly, there are still many common misconceptions about mental illness in society today and we use the power of sport to bring people together to talk about mental health and help change attitudes.

I cant thank my company SportsPro enough for supporting this charity, I was delighted and couldnt wait to jump in and get involved and showcase this fantastic charity and give it the exposure it deserves.
