Story
End-of-life care is such an integral part of the journey, as so many people spend their final days there. We can’t thank the incredible staff at St Luke’s Sheffield enough for everything they did for Giles during his time with them.
We could never put ourselves in their shoes, and we have so much gratitude for everything they do. Working day and night to keep Giles comfortable, even when he didn’t always make it easy for them, with a hovering middle finger constantly pointed at someone. Thankfully, everyone at St Luke’s understood Giles’ sense of humour, and that’s what made it the perfect place for him.
This is why myself and Jess have decided to run the St Luke’s 10k in September
GILES:
Viking mohawk hair, the man bun… ohhhh, the man bun.
More Vans than a teenage boy.
An ever-changing beard.
Ankle lifts and bear hugs.
The constant, “Squeeeezzeee your head,” as we pretended to use the Force to squeeze each other’s heads.
Petal.
Thai green curry burns.
Chips with curry sauce.
Dhal and jam, and tea, and coffee, and tea, and tea, and tea, and tea.
Kilts on mountainsides.
Kayaking with whales on the tides.
Sleeping in the ferns.
Painting, teaching, planets and stars.
Protests, socialism, aeroplanes and Mars.
Empathy, warmth, and more jam.
There was Sam, Sam, Sam, Big Sam, Little Sam, even Littler Sam. Oh, and Max.
Climbing on Land Rovers, rough and tumble, This Must Be the Place, Burning Down the House.
Tights on a cardboard box.
Stumbling on rocks.
Harry Potter and Doctor Who.
Whisky and tequila.
Toads and foxes.
Badger, badger, badger… SNAKE.
Each year, St Luke’s touches the lives of around 6,000 people in and around Sheffield. With only 23% of our costs funded by the government, we need to raise over £11 million this year to continue the work we do.
By taking part in the Sheffield 10K, I hope to help them continue providing their services across Sheffield.
Anything you can donate to my page will make a huge difference.
