Jayden’s Story!

On Tuesday 9th August 2022 I got the worst phone call I have ever received, Jayden my 5 year old son,  had been sick while at home and was going drowsy. I raced home and when I arrived he was barely conscious. We phoned for an ambulance while trying to keep him awake. An ambulance team arrived and soon after an air ambulance team arrived by rapid respond car. The doctor that arrived with the Air Ambulance team talked me through all the decisions they were making that were going to help the most. They helped to try and make him stable to be able to transport but then made the decision Jayden needed to be put onto a ventilator straight away before he was transferred to hospital. He needed more specialist help so we were taken to Royal London Hospital. When we arrived at the hospital with him he was rushed to resus where there were doctors for every part of Jayden’s body from head to toe to rule out immediate problems. Jayden was taken for tests then moved to paediatric ICU where he stayed while he got better. The nurses he had while in the ICU were incredible making sure Jayden was in the best care while also checking in on us. On Thursday Jayden woke up and was showing positive signs (being cheeky to his nurses although he couldn’t talk) so he was taken off his ventilator and started to improve more while having tons of tests done to see what had happened. On the Friday night the doctors were deciding whether to move him onto another ward in the hospital or move him to a hospital closer to home, we were transferred to Princess Alexandra hospital to receive more care. By Saturday morning Jayden was starting to walk around although very wobbly on his legs. After a few more days of care in Harlow he was finally discharged on Tuesday 16th August with all results of his tests clear.

I am so thankful for everyone that cared or looked after Jayden in that week but I am beyond thankful for the Air Ambulance team as I know the initial procedures they did at our home and the decision to take him to Royal London are the ones that saved him! We want to raise as much as we can to keep this charity running so it can continue to save so many people in the future. I know we are in tough times but I ask if you are able please donate what you can. Thank You x
