Story

‘In memory of Mike Mullens and Kevin Turner’

In July 2015, our dear friend Mike Mullens passed away at the Hospice with his son, Christopher, ourselves and two close friends at his side, holding his hands.

In September 2019, another dear, close friend and Sailing Skipper, Kevin Turner also passed away at the Hospice, with his great love Jenny and his daughter Harriet at his side.

We, and many of our friends and family, miss these two larger than life characters so very much and we are indebted to the love, kindness and support St Wilfrid’s provided to them at their time of need, and also that the Hospice continue to provide.

Therefore, not with a faint heart, a decision was made that we would take on a challenge to trek 50 km over the Sahara Desert with five friends - and to be known as ‘The Sandstorm Seven’.

Our ‘trek’ is not only to raise funds for St Wilfrid’s Hospice, but also awareness as to the fact that St Wilfrid's relies on about 70% of its funding from donations through the local community and yet, the care the Hospice provide is free of any charge!

Every donation to our page will go direct to St Wilfrid’s Hospice (we have covered the cost and expense of the trip) therefore any donation you are able to make, in support of us undertaking this great challenge, would be so greatly appreciated.

Thank you
