Last year I was lucky to be given the chance to visit Malawi, Africa. I went as a volunteer to support a nursery project in a little village called Cape McClear.
Whilst there I learnt that there were many challenges, including children been subjected to unacceptable treatment in schools and I decided to try and help Changing Stars Malawi build there own school where good standards could be obtained using kind and caring methods as opposed to punishment methods.
In a moment of madness (probably after a glass of prosecco) I decided to run a marathon. This will be a gruelling 26.2 miles and will challenge me to the core considering that a year ago I struggled to walk let alone run. The training over the past 10 months has been what I can only describe as horrendous. Morning runs in the dark, rain and wind, the questionable diet and sheer number of steps. I genuinely think I have done enough steps I could have run to Africa.
I'm not sure what's more impressive that I (yes me) am actually going to run a marathon, or that I am asking people I know to give me money for doing it. So why I am asking you to part with your well earned cash? Well, I am not going to lie its not for the (nasty) tasting energy gels, jelly babies and electrolyte drinks that are keeping me going but it is for helping wonderful children in Africa like Mathew obtain an education that is completely free from using punishment as a method to teach. This marathon is being self funded, therefore 100% of your generous donation will go straight to the charity to facilitate building this school.
