On 05 January 2026, we lost our amazing Dad to cancer; throughout his long and hard battle, he never once lost his sense of humour or his kindness and caring attitude toward others.

Dad was part of a medical trial for nine years, always hoping his participation would help others facing the same condition. Even on the day we learned his cancer had spread and was no longer treatable, Dad thanked his specialist for their time and expressed deep appreciation for all the treatment and support he had received.

I wanted to express our heartfelt gratitude to Wirral Hospice St John’s - Hospice at Home, who supported Dad and us in his final weeks in our home. I can honestly say they became part of our family, the care, kindness, and compassion shown by the team went above and beyond anything we have ever experienced.

Dad was many things to many people, but above all, he was a family man—our rock, our guide, and our constant. His calm, steady presence made us feel safe just knowing he was there, and he is missed beyond belief.

On Sunday the 07th June myself and some of my amazing friends who have been a constant support throughout Dad's journey will be undertaking the Wirral Costal Walk to raise much needed funds for the hospice.

On Sunday 7th June, gather your family and friends and join like-minded walkers on the scenic Wirral Coastal Walk. The total distance is approximately 20 kilometers with intermediate finishes at 6K (Leasowe Common) and 12K (Kings Gap).

Wirral Hospice St John's provides specialist palliative care for the Wirral. It costs up to £7million a year to run the Hospice, which is at no charge to our patients. This is all thanks to the loyal support and commitment of our supporters who do so much to help raise funds for our charity's work.
